Do I add fuel to the BLU™ lighter when I
first get it?
Yes. BLU™, like our windproof lighter, is shipped without
fuel
How do I refuel the BLU™ lighter?
-
Do
not attempt to remove insert
- Use butane fuel only. Do not use liquid lighter fluid
- Invert lighter
- Locate fill valve on lighter bottom
- Holding the BLU Lighter inverted (hold both the lighter and
the butane can upside down) insert the nozzle of the butane can
into fill valve on lighter bottom as shown
- Depress nozzle 2 to 3 times using firm, even pressure
- With the lighter inverted, check the butane level, visible
through the viewing window on side of lighter After filling,
wait 2 minutes prior to using to allow fuel to stabilize.
How do I light the BLU™ lighter?
Striking
the wheel of the BLU lighter has a different feel than a traditional
Zippo lighter. In one continuous motion
- Using your thumb, fully depress flint wheel (starting flow
of butane)
- Rotate wheel firmly (creating spark)
- Depress gas-release button (maintaining flow of butane)
- Use caution, flame is extremely hot Release button to extinguish
flame
I added butane but the BLU™ lighter still won't light.
- Make sure the butane fuel tank contains enough butane (at least
1/4 full), invert lighter to view
- Make sure no vapor lock has occurred in fuel tank
- Make sure there is a flint in the flint wheel cartridge
- Make sure the flint wheel cartridge is inserted properly
- Make sure the screw is securely tightened on the flint wheel
cartridge

How do I empty the butane from the BLU™ lighter?
Expel all butane from lighter by depressing and holding the gas
release button. Do this in a well-ventilated area away from a fire
or source of sparks.
What is vapor lock? How can I fix it?
Vapor lock occurs when air gets inside the sealed gas chamber
of the lighter. This happens when:
- The lighter and can are not inverted during the fueling process
- The lighter is burned for a long time
- The lighter is ignited several times in a short period
To remove vapor lock:
- Invert lighter
- Bleed excess air from the tank by depressing fill valve with
tip of a pointed tool
- Be careful when bleeding the lighter. Expelled butane is very
cold
- Point the lighter away from your face and any ignition source
- Refill with Zippo Premium Butane fuel or another premium brand
of butane
How do I install a new flint in the BLU™ lighter?
-
Do
not attempt to remove the inside unit
- Pull flint wheel cartridge straight up
- Turn cartridge upside down and remove screw with thin coin
or small screwdriver
- Remove any remaining old flint
- Insert a new flint in the tube
- For best results, use only Zippo brand flints
- Replace the screw in the flint wheel cartridge
- Tighten screw securely in place
- Reinsert the flint wheel cartridge into lighter, making sure
the notched side is facing the burner.
